I serve women owned small businesses here at Madalyn Yates Creative. Together we create a strategic plan to bring heart & soul to your brand through storytelling photos & beyond.

When I’m not behind the camera, you can find me hanging out in my office, sipping on a latte at local coffee shops, baking something delicious & traveling the world.

I'M MADALYN!

Coming to you this week with a tip for your next branding session or honestly, anytime you’re in front of the camera! Does posing make you nervous? Honestly, same. You’re definitely not alone. Here are a few tips to help you at your next branding session!

Props

Having something to hold or to do while your photographer snaps away is a game-changer and will help you feel less nervous. Here are a few of my go-to props to cure the posing nerves: camera, coffee mug, a bouquet of on-brand flowers, a planner, or whatever tools you need to do your service or product!

Play Your Favorite Tunes

Play your new favorite album or pick your go-to playlist so you can open up and have some fun! I am a huge fan of turning up the music and dancing through my branding sessions!

Here are a few fun songs that will guarantee some awesome candid portraits: This Girl Is On Fire, Fancy Like, anything Justin Beiber, Walking on Sunshine!

Include Your Friends, Co Workers or Pets

Include other people in your branding session – especially if you’re a service provider, let’s showcase what it is you do!! Since I don’t have a team or co-workers, I tend to include my pets for this part! When I am trying to showcase my service, I do include models or real-life clients to tell that story to my audience!

Shift. Your. Gaze

Movement is so so helpful when you’re being photographed – not all your photos need you to be looking directly at the camera! Be sure to look at your props to make it look more authentic!

Well, that was fun! I loved switching gears and sharing how to find a few cures to posing nerves with you! If you’ve read this and you’ve learned something new, comment below and share with me!
