I serve women owned small businesses here at Madalyn Yates Creative. Together we create a strategic plan to bring heart & soul to your brand through storytelling photos & beyond.

When I’m not behind the camera, you can find me hanging out in my office, sipping on a latte at local coffee shops, baking something delicious & traveling the world.

I'M MADALYN!

This week’s topic is how to prepare mentally for your website revamp or your branding experience! This is a topic that I have a lot of clients get caught up in so Katie and I decided we’d talk through it a little to help put our clients at ease!

From Katie’s point of view …

  1. How can we as clients make it easier for you as the web designer?
    • It’s so helpful (and even mandatory for a lot of designers) when you provide copy and images BEFORE we even start the web design process. I require this so that I know what kind of pages we’ll need to design, what kind of functionality we’ll need, and also so that the project doesn’t get held up. Whether you hire a copywriter or not (and you can always ask your designer for referrals!!), a strong copy can get put on the back burner if your designer doesn’t prioritize you providing it upfront.
    • Realize that we won’t get offended if you want to change something. Our goals are 100% aligned–we want your website to be EXACTLY what will be most helpful for your user.
    • What to know before you start working on a website revamp:
      • Nothing is set in stone–it can always change!
      • It’s not about YOUR preferences, it’s about your audience
      • Communication is key!

From Madalyn’s point of view …

  • How can we as clients make it easier for you as the photographer?
    • Trust me! That’s my biggest ask/need. I need you to trust me to bring life into your brand. Together we can dive deep and really do what needs to be done!
    • You have to be open to having FUN and trying new things (as long as they make sense obviously!)
    • Be responsive. What this means is, my start to finish process is heavy at the beginning with questionnaires, planning, etc so remember it’s worth it in the end & once shoot day arrives, it’ll all make sense and be SO worth it!!!
    • Make a list of the goals you want to reach by the end of the experience. Knowing these ahead of time will help you achieve what you need!
    • Know your content themes –  It’s important to have themes or topics that you can talk about repeatedly on social media. When you know what your content themes are, you’re able to batch create photos that allow you to easily talk about that theme. Consistency will set you apart as the expert and will remind your followers what you’re known for.

You don’t have to be in the photos ….

  1. What if I’m not comfortable being the “face” of my brand? What other kind of photos can there be?
    1. I think the easiest way to do this is to give you examples of a few so
      1. Photographer: a detailed shot of hands holding the camera, packing your gear, photographing a flat lay, or packing a client gift.
      2. Web Designer: a detailed shot of you making a mood board, typing on your keyboard, writing in a paper journal, working on the computer
      3. Florist: a flat lay of your materials, detailed photo of you trimming a stem, your apron with flowers sticking out of it

Okay, that is all for this week! I’ve referred back to this blog post a handful of times, but it’s a wonderful place to learn more about preparing for your experience with me! BE sure to check it out! If you’re interested in a Branding Experience or Website Revamp, Katie & I would love to work with you! As always, thanks for popping in! xoxo
